In the year 1776, we were under attack by the British, who were kicking our asses. General George Washington moved his army to Manhattan Island and he was in desperate need of information on the location of an impending invasion from England’s forces. Only one man volunteered to do the job, which if he were caught, would mean immediate death, as a spy.

The battle of Long Island had ended in a British victory and the capture of New York City. And there was Nathan, alone, behind enemy lines, when he was captured by the British and arrested. Bill Richmond tied a heavy rope to a sturdy tree and slipped a noose around the neck of young Nathan and he heard our spy say his famous last words,

"I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country"

. . . just before he was hanged for spying behind enemy lines on a mission for George Washington's Army and OUR newly forming nation.

You and I have freedom, thanks to 21 year old Captain NATHAN HALE, who laid down his life for his, our country, 239 years ago. . . today, September 22nd, 1776.

We honor your memory and thank you for your sacrifice.
