It's amazing what the Wyoming Legislature deems necessary to pass as real legislation. We have a state mythological animal, bush and we also have a state dinosaur.

The year was 1994, about a year after the release of 'Jurassic Park' that Wyoming Legislators decided to claim a state dinosaur.

Some claim that the Triceratops, the three-horned face dinosaur, walked in Wyoming over 65 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period.

The 1994 state statute declares, "A state dinosaur shall be designated by election according to law. The results of the election naming the state dinosaur shall be filed with the Secretary of State."

Three skeletal remains were unearthed in 2013. The skeletons were said to be 67 Million years old.

Wyoming also adopted a state fossil, the Knightia, in 1987.
