Wyoming Sees More Boat Inspections

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming inspectors have been looking at thousands of boats entering the state to prevent the spread of exotic mussels.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reports that inspectors have looked at some 15,000 boats and other watercraft this season. More than half of those inspections took place in June.

Wyoming implemented a new law last year required any watercraft entering the state between March 1 and Nov. 30 to undergo an inspection before it may be launched.

Wyoming officials are determined to prevent the entry of zebra mussels and quagga mussels into the state’s waters. The invasive species are already present in neighboring states and can clog waterworks and harm native fish and other species.
