David Fales threw for 482 yards and five touchdowns and ran for the game-winning touchdown with 8 seconds left, as the San Jose State Spartans defeated the Wyoming Cowboys 51-44 in California Saturday night. SJSU out-scored UW 37-to-21 in the second half.

Fales connected with senior receiver Chandler Jones on t-d passes of 76, 8 and 30 yards. He also hit Tyler Winston on a 60-yard strike and Tyler Smith on a 3-yard pass. Jarrod Lawson added 128 rush yards.

San Jose State (4-3, 3-1) rallied three different times from a 16-point deficit for just their second ever victory over the Cowboys.

Wyoming (4-4, 2-2) jumped out to a 16-0 lead behind a Stuart Williams 43-yard field goal, a Brett Smith to Robert Herron 93-yard touchdown pass and a 1-yard t-d run by Tedder Easton. They extended to 23-7 and 30-14 leads, but couldn't put away the Spartans.

San Jose State rallied with 22 straight points in the third quarter for a 36-30 lead. A Shaun Wick 15-yard touchdown run gave the lead back to the Pokes at 37-36 with 11:47 left. The Spartans answered right back with Fales third t-d pass to Jones, plus a two-point conversion for a 44-37 lead. Wyoming responded with Easton's second 1-yard scoring plunge that tied the game at 44 with 5:17 remaining. That set-up the Spartans game-winning 12-play drive and Fales score.

The Cowboys wasted Shaun Wick's career-best 234 rushing yards on 17 carries in the loss. He averaged 13.8 yards per carry. Smith went 22-34 for 267 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, as UW finished with 599 total yards of offense. The Pokes defense allowed 642 yards offensively to San Jose State.

Wyoming has their second bye on the schedule next weekend before the 15th-ranked and undefeated Fresno State Bulldogs visit Laramie. The Cowboys will face the Bulldogs at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie November 9. The game time will be announced at a later time.
