For the third consecutive year, Wyoming State Parks is hosting “First Day Hikes” for Wyoming citizens to start the New Year.

All 50 states will take part, but here in Wyoming, six New Year’s Day guided hikes will be held at venues statewide as part of the America’s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative. Last year saw over 500 participants statewide.

Parks Administrator Domenic Bravo said.

“ First Day Hikes have become a rejuvenating tradition for ringing in the New Year. It provides visitors with an opportunity to see our parks, trails, and historic sites from a unique perspective, while enjoying Wyoming's beautiful winter wonderland.”

Park staff and volunteers will lead the hikes, which average one to two miles or longer depending on the state park or historic site. Details about hike locations, difficulty and length, terrain and tips regarding proper clothing are listed on the America’s State Parks website.
