Quentin Tarantino's latest movie "The Hateful Eight" is set here in the great state of Wyoming. Although the film was shot in Colorado, one Wyoming business is featured prominently throughout the production.

Merlin's Hide Out, a Thermopolis based retailer specializing in leather and fur products, handcrafted the buffalo hide coats worn by actor Kurt Russell in the movie.

In a recent Wyoming Business Report article, co-owner Barb Heinze recalled how she and her husband Merlin were commissioned by renowned costume designer Courtney Hoffman to craft a custom buffalo hide coats for the film's main character.

According to Heinze, eight identical coats were created for the movie. Each coat, she said, takes three days to produce, requiring two full buffalo hides and and 11 separate patterns.

Hoping to capitalize on the film's success at the box office, Merlin's Hide Out is now selling authentic replicas of the same coat worn in the movie. The full length "Hateful Eight" buffalo coat is available online or at the store's retail outlet on 626 Richards St. in Thermopolis.
