Moving to Casper was an easy choice. It did not take long to feel at home. From Casper Mountain to the friendly people, the town fit like a comfortable shirt.  It covered all the right places, and a little worn around the edges. Now I have to ask myself what do I need to know or do to covert to Wyomingite? More then just a drivers license, but to be part of the town.

I decided to explore Casper - just drive and see what I could discover. The first thing I noticed about Casper are the roads. The intersections make the OCD part of myself go batty. Is there something against straight lines and perpendicular junctions? The road meanders like a river. I guess we are still following that original cow path as it strolled across town. It’s not a bad thing, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like a dingbat driving around town.  Maybe I need a bumper sticker that says “Don’t mind me, I’m just a tourist.”

One night I decided to drive to the lookout point on Casper Mountain and something clicked looking at all the lights. Maybe just maybe the roads are wonky be design to resemble a cowboy riding a bucking bronco like the 7 Wonders of Casper describe. Maybe it is some kind of Rorschach test in the twinkling lights. All the road intersections shaped like a Y or K could be part of the saddle. That curved road over there is part of the horse's mane. That street is a tail, and that is the cowboy's boot. It is a bit of a stretch, but with a little imagination, it might just be a cowboy after all. Well I think I like that explanation the best.

The next day I needed to get a bite to eat. It was a Sunday after church hours. There was a crowd gathered along 2nd ave, and I could smell breakfast. I could just tell this was the place. It took a while to get a seat, but by far Eggington's was one of the best breakfast places I have ever had the pleasure to dine. Breakfast burrito. Check. Eggs Benedict. Check. Friendly service. Check. This was my kind of place.

After a delicious breakfast decided to take my exploration on foot. Around every corner were statues. To me when a town personality is reflected in the art it displays (see photo gallery of the all the sculptures I found). Art is abundant in Casper. Not to mention the Nicolaysen Art Museum which I have yet to visit.

After food, I needed some music. And just around the corner found another gem, Sonic Rainbow. Friendly staff and good selection of vinyl, cds, and even tapes. They even have concerts from time to time. Just what I needed for my Casper checklist.

It didn't take long to find the charm and all the things I needed in Casper even with the crazy roads. And I'm happy to say I call this town home.
