What Does Labor Day Mean to You?
It sounds a little silly, doesn't it? It's Labor Day and that means a day off for most. Although the word labor basically means work, it's more of a celebration of work.
Without giving you the boring history of Labor Day, I use it as a day to show some respect and give thanks for the ones who have employed me over the years and put me where I am today, in a professional sense.
So, on this Labor Day, here are a few people I want to thank.
First of all, my uncle Ron who was also a radio guy. I figured if he could do it, so could I.
Randy Beckstead, the radio instructor at YV-Tech who not only taught hands-on radio, but also how to have fun on the air.
Ron Harris for giving me my first on-air radio job at 94.5 KATS (where I still make a cameo appearance every once in a while)
Brad Collins in Idaho Falls who let me have creative freedom to do pretty much whatever I wanted.
Donovan Short as, when I was out of work, he was first to hire me back in radio.
As, if it weren't for them, I probably wouldn't be in radio today. I don't really do much beyond giving them a public Facebook shout-out, but I know people who send cards to their previous bosses. I'm not going all out like that, but I do appreciate them and many more along the way and more in the future.
