Yellowstone National Park has identified a Texas woman who died last week when she was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross a road to watch an eagle, according to a news release from the park.

Wendy Larrabee, 47, was visiting the park with friends, wanted to take a picture of an eagle, and crossed West Entrance Road about two miles inside the park about 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 18.

Larrabee was hit by a vehicle leaving the park.

Bystanders started CPR immediately and rangers arrived within minutes, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The park advises visitors to use pullouts to stop and view wildlife. It is unsafe to park on the shoulders and walk in and along the roadway. Drivers also should slow down when moving through a congested area.

Assistance was provided by West Yellowstone Police Department, Montana Highway Patrol, Hebgen Lake EMS and Fire, and the Gallatin Valley Sheriff's Office.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Yellowstone National Park at (307) 344-2132, or visit the park's website.
