University of Wyoming Cowboys Un-Defeated! Still!
I’m going to humble my self in public. Because on this blog about a month ago I questioned the talent level, dedication, focus, and willingness to go the extra mile of the University of Wyoming Cowboys Basketball team. Last night I was again proven wrong.
The Pokes moved to 12-0 on the year with a 56-40 victory over U.C. Santa Barbara. All in part due to the extra effort of Leonard Washington who finished up with 17 points and 11 rebounds. At the half the Pokes were only holding on to a 24-23 lead. Then Washington took over. Took Over!!…The Wyoming senior forward scored 10 points, pulled down five rebounds and took a charge in the first 10 minutes of the second half putting his signature on the Cowboys win in the Double A. With the win, Wyoming (12-0) tied the school’s 1950-51 team for the best start in program history. No Cowboys team has ever gone 13-0. As a team in the second half, Wyoming’s shooting percentage improved to 43.5 percent; 3-pointers improved to 36.4; and free throws climbed to 72.7. Meanwhile the Pokes’ defense tightened, holding UC Santa Barbara to 17 second-half points and the lowest-scoring total of any opponent all year. Senior guard Luke Martinez scored 14 points. Sophomore forward Larry Nance Jr. and senior guard Derrious Gilmore both added seven.
Now it’s time for the Cowboys to get a little love from the Associated Press top 25 teams in the country. Time for the Pokes to be nationally ranked. But then again….ranking’s only mean something to folks not on the floor. The Cowboys appear willing to be quietly humble….all the way the the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
The Cowboys next game wont be until we move into the new year when the Cowboys take on (8-4) Southern Methodist University. By then lets hope the AP comes to their senses and put the Pokes in the lime light. Even if they don’t this version of the Cowboys Basketball squad will more than not keep winning games.
