A song called ‘Lonely Planet’ will represent the hopes of Armenians at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi wrote the ballad, to be performed by Dorians when the annual contest begins on May 14 in Sweden.

The Eurovision is a competition held annually among member countries of the European Broadcasting Union. Songs are performed live and later heard on the radio. A voting period establishes a winner with residents of different countries only being able to vote for another country’s song. It’s among the most-watched television events in the world, with past winners including ABBA and Celine Dion.

Armenia is a relatively new addition to the contest, which has been active since the 1950s. The BBC reports that Iommi is helping the country after having assisted in fundraising efforts following a 1988 earthquake which killed 45,000 people. He also was involved in a campaign to build a music school in Armenia.

Iommi — who’s still battling cancer — said he was hesitant to participate. “The thing is, I’ve always thought, ‘Oh no, not the Eurovision’, and here I am in it now,” he tells the BBC. ‘Lonely Planet’ was a ballad that was already written, so he sent it along. He expects the song to be ”slagged [off] like everything else does.”

The BBC also reports that Iommi said he’ll be facing years of treatment for his cancer, but is doing well enough to continue work on Black Sabbath’s new album, which is expected in 2013.
