So. Today is National Radio Day. I find it amazing that those in the power that be actually declared a "radio day." A friend at our Cheyenne station said we should post about who influenced us in radio. This is hard for me to do. Because the man that started me in radio. I miss as if it was yesterday. He was radio. For me.  I first started in radio in my basement. I set up two turn tables and a fake mike and I did radio. You see. My father was in radio. Initially he did sales, sports, and news at a small town radio station in Casper. He was just a guy that loved radio. Loved radio. He was the editor of the University of Wyoming newspaper. Frat guy. Was a journalism major. Head of the local U.W. radio station when there wasn't a U.W. radio station. I remember there were those times that, at Christmas, in Casper, all of us, eleven kids, wanted to open Christmas presents. However my father. William F Shutts, former Wyoming Cowboy cheerleader, roommates with Curt Gowdey, Jimmy Speas, Kenny Sailor and Tino Roncollio, had different plans. We had to wait because he was out at the "station" which was KVOC which was located just across the street from Casper College, doing radio. He was dedicated to radio and we had to wait for our Christmas because Bill Shutts was doing his radio job. I remember one day at the NCHS stadium when it was raining like hell and my father and I were setting up equipment to do play by play of a track meet. Think about this. A track meet. Play by  play. Really? Yes. There was one point in my life that we did the "rosary' live from St. Anthony's Church. I remember when he took me out of second grade at St. Anthony's School to take me on the road. He was taking me to the University of Wyoming basketball games,  when Casper College was going to play the Cowboys. The coach of the T-Birds was Mike Sedar. I got to ride on the bus with the team that played the Cowboys.

Lets move forward to a guy that introduced me to radio after my father. Pat Meehan. A guy that gave a 13 year old kid a job. I used to sneak down, out of my house after midnight, to KATI to "learn radio." After the night guy at KATI let me in the building to "watch" what he did, one night when he was drunk I got a chance at radio. I got to play music and spots, but he told me to "don't crack the mike." Mr. Pat Meehan showed up that night and said "what the hell are you doing on my radio station." I told him I was "doing radio." He left and came back in twenty minutes and said "you got a job." "Tell your dad to call me."

Larry Wakfield, John Shea, Sarge McClintock,  Frank Flannigan, Bill Munday, Steve Fritz, Jock Blaney, Randy Hall, Fred Leehman, Holly Wood, Dave Nutter, Pete Williams,  there are so many. So many. Mr. Robert Dallas Price. My leader and mentor.  I will for ever be indebted to you my friend. You gave me so much. Donovan Short. I thank you for what you have given me over the years. Radio has been in my life since I was a child. Even this article is short for who gave me so much. See you on the radio.
