The Who is preparing for their 50th anniversary with a new interactive app that takes fans on a 3-D journey of the band's music and history.

The app features images and memorabilia from the archives, rare pictures and photos from Roger Daltrey's personal collection.

The program can be used with Apple and Android mobile devices, and is available for free download at iTunes and Google Play.  Users will be able to move through a three-dimensional environment featuring landmarks and sites that represent various milestones in the band's history.  The app includes an exhibit focusing on the group's new The Who Hits 50!compilation that allows users to buy or stream video and audio content while enjoying an interactive component offering rare photos and images.

Daltrey admits he's not a fan of smartphones, however he acknowledges the possibilities to entertain and educate new younger fans.

"The music business needs to use every avenue possible to keep the fans and the music in close contact.  This app will hopefully teach our newer, younger fans everything they might want to know of our history, and hopefully unearth some odds and sods for our older ones."

Here's a sample of the Immersive App.
