The Phil Rudd Story Is Just Strange

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd is no longer facing murder-for-hire charges in New Zealand, according to his attorney.

His lawyer released a statement Friday, New Zealand time, stating Crown Solicitor Greg Hollister-Jones has withdrawn the charge after determining there was insufficient evidence to pursue it.

Rudd remains charged with threatening to kill, possession of cannabis and possession of methamphetamine.

The lawyer says in the statement, "Mr. Rudd has suffered unnecessary and extremely damaging publicity as a result of widespread and sensational reporting of a very serious allegation, which on any basis was never justified."

The lawyer adds, "Mr. Rudd is considering any possible remedies he may have."

Rudd, 60, was initially charged Thursday in Tauranga District Court, accused of trying to arrange two unspecified murders.
