The Centers For Disease Control has compiled a list of The most distinctive causes of death by state from 2001-2010. It’s not the most common cause of death, instead, it’s about nonstandard cause-of-death certification practices within and between states. In layman’s terms, it’s about each state’s most distinctive way to die.

In Wyoming, as in every state, cancer or heart disease is the most common killer. But the most distinctive way to die in The Cowboy State is….. Influenza. Not as dramatic as legal intervention, or “deaths due to injuries inflicted by police or other law-enforcement agents,” but certainly more respectable than the Louisiana syphilis.
