If you've been hoping to catch the Eagles on tour this summer, you just might be in luck -- if you're willing to drive to see them. The legendary California rockers have announced a limited number of shows for their 'History of the Eagles' tour, which will kick off July 6 in Louisville, Ky. and wrap up in Bethel, N.Y. on July 25.

Last month's two-episode Showtime documentary chronicling the rise and fall of the Eagles will be available on DVD and Blu-ray next month. The band announced today that 'History of the Eagles' will be released on April 30, and include a third disc featuring the group's performance at the Capital Centre in Landover, Md. in 1977.

The Eagles are part of a diverse and star-studded collection of musicians who have donated memorabilia to help raise money for those whose lives were impacted by last December's mass killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Ct.

Eagles singer-songwriter and drummer Don Henley is releasing a new solo album in May, and in an interview to promote that upcoming work, he let slip that a former member of the Eagles will return to the band for an upcoming tour -- though he declined to say which one.

When Don Henley and Glenn Frey set about authorizing the new documentary 'History of the Eagles,' they took the unusual step of securing an Oscar-winning filmmaker to produce -- because, as Frey put it in a recent interview with the New York Times, "Our management sent me what they thought were some of the best music documentaries that had been done. And I wasn’t crazy about any of it."

There were many things that jumped out to Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey as he waded through hours of homemade archival video footage from the '70s, which would eventually become the heart of the new, no-holds-barred documentary on the seminal Southern California band, 'History of the Eagles Part 1.'

Not that there's ever really been a bad time to be a member of the Eagles, all things considered, but this is shaping up to be a pretty good month for the guys in the band -- especially bassist Timothy B. Schmit, who recently shared the news that his battle with cancer appears to be over.

Well, that was fast: Shortly after making its Sundance debut, the documentary 'The History of the Eagles, Part One' -- and its sequel, 'Part Two' -- has found a home at Showtime, where it'll premiere as part of a two-night event on Feb. 15 and 16.

The upcoming Sundance Film Festival will feature the world premiere of 'History of the Eagles, Part 1,' a fully authorized documentary that chronicles the early history of the band. The screening will take place at the Eccles Theater in Park City, Utah on Jan. 19, 2013 at 9:45PM.
