CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — State troopers from Wyoming and South Dakota have been stepping up patrols on Interstate 90 between Sturgis, S.D. and Sundance in response to the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

State police agencies in both states say that officers made 24 arrests and issued 49 warnings during a joint enforcement operation on Wednesday. This is the first year South Dakota and Wyoming have joined together for the enforcement effort.

Thousands of bikers converge on Sturgis for the annual event.

Capt. Kevin Karley of the South Dakota Highway Patrol says the rally is a busy time for law enforcement every year.

Capt. Carl Clements of the Wyoming Highway Patrol says the joint operation increased law enforcement coverage and visibility during a high traffic portion of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
