Steve Miller Should Move To Wyoming

Singer, songwriter, performer Steve Miller is selling his house at 67 Roulac Lane, San Juan Island in Washington state that is a 40 minute seaplane ride from Seattle, according to Realtor.com.

Nestled on 39 acres with a sheltered bay deep water dock that can accommodate large yachts. There's hiking trails, a Japanese tea-house and a manicured pasture for his horses. The almost 12,000 square foot house is spacious and beautiful.

“The house is a marvel of woodworking, with clear fir on the walls, ceilings and floors. Mr. Miller was very exacting in the selection of the wood materials. There are no knots in this building. This isn’t a home with a bunch of drywall. It’s very organic, celebrating the natural wood and the beautiful surroundings.”

Sotheby’s International Realty is handling the property that comes at a modest $16.8 Million. It has four full baths, one partial bath and two bedrooms. The recording studio could be converted to a bedroom.

A while back, Steve sold his Seattle home at 3809 W Mercer Way, not far from Bill Gate’s shack for almost $2 Million. It lasted 8 days on the market. He sold his Medina home for $6.2 Million.

Steve wrote some of his best songs such as “Fly Like an Eagle” when he lived in Oregon from 1976 to 1986, according to oregonlive who posted an article called “Rent rocker Steve Miller's old Oregon ranch house or just drop by to fish.” The neighbors loved him. "We had a lot of fun days swimming in the lake, using Steve's boats, fishing in the pond. We met Boz Scaggs there one afternoon. Steve had a lot of really cool souvenirs."

My guess is he moved on from there because “In the back of the hall is an expensive recording studio that Miller could never use. Despite ample acoustically padding, it couldn't shake the incessant vibrations from the Webco lumber mill a half mile away.”

Steve also sold his Ketchum, Idaho digs where he almost lost that property to fire at one time. Steve was a great community supporter there. The kind of resident we would appreciate in Wyoming, where there’s a cozy little place he could pick up for $17.5 Million at 2455 Fish Creek Road

We’ve got a lot of that.

On a personal note, I once worked in Seattle at KISW, which was owned by actor, dancer and singer Danny Kaye, the actor and by Lester Smith, who had a daughter Steve was dating. One year, at a station Christmas party, I saw a guy who looked like a comfortable insurance salesman with a cardigan style sweater vest. Steve has never plastered his face around the media, but I figured out who he was and we casually talked about recording techniques and gear, and that I would liked to purchase one of his old multi-track recording decks. He ended up donating much of his gear to some schools, which is good. But I sure would have loved to have scored a piece of history that helped make some of his great music that ended up selling over 40 million albums. He was very warm and open and I treasure that memory to this day.
