The nearly 11,000 acre Squirrel Creek Fire is 100% contained, this according to a release sent by California Interagency Incident Management Team Four Monday night.

The release says that the California Interagency Incident Managment Team transferred command of the Squirrel Creek Fire back to the Medicine Bow National Forrest Tuesday at 6:00 AM.  All of the evacuations related to the fire have been lifted and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.  All roads in the area of the fire have been opened as well, including within the Medicine Bow National Forrest.  Officials do warn, however, that there is still on-going firefighting activity in these areas and advise people to use caution.

Rocky Opliger, who was incident commander under California Interagency Incident Management Team Four, expressed gratitude for the support shown by the community, “Without that support, we would not be here today where we are with the fire, and able to allow people to return to their homes.”

Albany County Sheriff Dave O’Malley also thanked Opliger and his team saying “The interagency coordination, cooperation and public understanding helped make a challenging incident safe and manageable.”

More information can be found at the InciWeb website, or by calling the information hotline between 8 AM and 4:30 PM at 307-745-2300.

Investigation into the human cause of the fire is ongoing.
