Singer/Writer/Poet J.J. Cale Dies

Back in the day I searched out artist that wrote for all the big names. And had a few hit’s them selves. I remember a summer night drinking sweet tea and listening to J.J. Cale’s “Magnolia.” “Magnolia you sweet thing. Your drivin’ me mad. Got to get back to you. You’re the best I ever had.” And now he’s gone at 74. He influenced some of the world’s best musicians with his lyric and melodies through the 70′s.

J.J. Cale won a Grammy at one point for his song “Call me the breeze.” Yet never got to that next level of stardom. He wrote for Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd and others.

Born John Weldon Cale in Oklahoma City, he cut a wide path through 1970s rock ‘n’ roll, influencing some of the most famous musicians at the time with songs that were laid back and mellow, yet imbued with a driving groove.

“Neil Young, Mark Knopfler and Bryan Ferry are among his many fans in the music world.” http://www.news-republic.com/Web/ArticleWeb.aspx?regionid=1&articleid=11394135

A true musical genius has left the building. And he will be missed.
