BIGHORN MOUNTAINS, Wyo. (AP) — Firefighters are continuing to battle the Sheep Creek Fire as it spreads across state land in northern Sheridan County.

The fire near the Tongue River Canyon Trail was first detected around 4 p.m. Sunday and has spread to an estimated 30 acres as of 10:30 a.m. Monday. Bighorn National Forest spokesman Bernie Bornong says the fire has not been contained and is heading west and north up rugged terrain.

Representatives from the United States Forest Service, Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Wyoming State Forestry, Dayton Volunteer Fire Department and Sheridan County are all working together to fight the fire.

Bornong says the Tongue River Canyon Trail has been closed and more closures are expected later Monday.
