It’s Prescription Drug Take-back Day Today, Saturday, September 27, 2014.

It’s part of a national campaign from the Drug Enforcement Administration, or DEA, to safely get rid of old or excess prescription drugs to keep them out of our ecosystem when thrown away and out of the hands of some who may abuse them, particularly juveniles. Prescription drug abuse is on the rise, and most teenagers get their drugs from their own homes.

While it is a national campaign, it’s important to tackle the problem on a local level. Cheyenne Police have collected 142 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs so far this year, and look to increase that figure substantially today. They will let you anonymously dispose of your unwanted or unused drugs in their lobby at 2020 Capitol Avenue from 10 until 2 today.

In Casper, Walgreens, 100 Rosedale Road, will receive your drugs from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, September 27, 2014, to safely dispose of unused and old prescriptions.
