Summer is quickly approaching.  Kids get out of school for the summer and get to go play outside.  Unfortunately the season also brings dangers and the chance for injuries.  Safe Kids of Central Wyoming and the City of Casper are hosting the Annual Safe Kids Day event on Saturday, May 4, at the Casper Recreation Center.

Safe Kids Day in one day reaches hundreds of families to prevent an uncountable number of injuries and potential deaths.  You can experience many safety tips at the Annual Safe Kids Day event on Saturday, May 4, at the Casper Recreation Center from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.  Helmets, life jackets and more will be distributed at the event.  The event is free to everyone.

Safe Kids of Central Wyoming is dedicated in preventing non-fatal and fatal injuries to our children in central Wyoming.  Throughout the year, Safe Kids of Central Wyoming holds many events, hosts informational booths, distributes hundreds of safety devices, checks hundreds of child safety seats and educates the public on safety precautions.  In Summer 2012 alone, Wyoming Medical Center had eight trauma red activations and 29 yellow activations, which mean the children’s injuries were severe enough that they needed immediate attention and possible surgical intervention.  Many of these injuries resulted from motor vehicle accidents, drowning, bike crashes, pedestrian incidents, falls and other hazards.  In the injury prevention community, summer is also known as “trauma season.”  There is a dramatic increase in child injuries between the months of May and August.  Sadly, by the end of this summer, more than 2,000 children will die because of injuries that could have been prevented.
