Royals Duo Leads A.L. Past N.L., 4-2, in MLB All-Star Game

Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez homered off former Royals’ teammate Johnny Cueto during a three-run second inning, and the American League beat the National League, 4-2, in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in San Diego on Tuesday night.

Game Most Valuable Player Hosmer added an RBI single, as the A.L. won its fourth straight Midsummer Classic. The American League’s victory guaranteed its champion home-field advantage in this fall’s World Series.

Cubs slugger Kris Bryant gave the N.L. its only lead of the game with a solo home run in the first inning off White Sox ace Chris Sale.

Indians’ pitcher Corey Kluber notched the win, with Orioles’ closer Zach Britton securing the save in the ninth inning. Giants’ ace Cueto took the loss.

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz basked in the game’s best moment when all of his A.L. teammates welcomed him off the field near first base in the third inning after Edwin Encarnación pinch ran for the Boston slugger, who was playing in his final All-Star Game. Ortiz announced his plans to retire after this season earlier this year.
