Over 44 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home during this break, according to AAA. 37.5 million people will travel by car, a 2.9 percent increase from last year.  be hitting the roads this weekend. That’s 1.25 million more than in the past.

Even with regular traffic, you need to be careful, but when people are let loose in 4-day-weekend-party-mode, a driver’s full attention may be more on texting, finding the right songs or looking for a rest stop because one of your passengers just had to have a 32 ounce Big Gulp for a 12 ounce bladder.

 

The worst time to travel is Friday, June 30, between 2 and 5 pm. The best travel time is Monday, the 3rd.

The next window of doom will be on Tuesday The 5th Of July, after the fireworks, usually between 10 – 11 pm, according to the travel app Waze.
