It's Summer and many folks will be headed into the back country to spend some time with nature.  But are you as prepared to be in the woods as you should be?

Make no bones about it, I love tarps!  They are a very useful and important part of my camping gear.  But having a tarp is not much good if you don't know how to secure it in the means necessary for the use you have in mind.

Tarps are great shelter devices (see yesterday's camping tip), but if you need to rig the tarp you'll need strong rope to keep it secure, especially in the Wyoming winds.

I recommend using a quality nylon rope.  Ropes come in different sizes and tinsel strengths, for me I use para cord.  I feel for the size and ease of carry, it gives me the best versatility for hunting, camping, tying things up in trees, etc.  You can purchase nylon rope at any hardware or sporting goods store or you can purchase it online. But in a pinch, zip-ties can work nicely as well.

Once you have your tarp and your rope... you're set.  The graphic below will give you a few basics on how to rig up your tarp.  But as you would imagine, different situations will require some strategizing to create a secure shelter.
