The tumultuous year for Queensryche that is 2012 is ending on a scary note. Randy Gane, who is currently playing keyboards in lead singer Geoff Tate‘s version of the band, suffered a heart attack on Wednesday (Dec. 26) night.

Yesterday (Dec. 27), Tate posted the following message to his Facebook page. “Please send your prayers and positive thoughts to my good friend and keyboard player; Randy Gane who is currently recovering from suffering a heart attack last night – GT”

Gane’s association with Tate extends back to the early-’80s, when Tate left an early version of Queensryche, which was then called the Mob, to join Gane in another Seattle progressive metal band, Myth. But Tate left the band when the Mob’s demo tape started to circulate, and the band changed its name to Queensryche. Myth featured guitarist Kelly Gray, who is also currently playing with Tate. The two, along with the rest of Tate’s Queensryche lineup, were introduced back in September.

Gane, who turned 53 on Nov. 30, is also known for his work with ’90s alternative band Candlebox, including their 1993 debut, which sold four million copies and featured the hits ‘You’ and ‘Far Behind.’
