Penguins Clinch Division – NHL Roundup For April 10th

UNDATED (AP) — Beau Bennett and Evgeni Malkin scored 13 seconds apart in the third period and the Pittsburgh Penguins clinched the Atlantic Division title by beating the free-falling Carolina Hurricanes 5-3. The ‘Canes have lost a club-record eight straight home games.

Brenden Morrow scored his first goal with the Penguins, Robert Bortuzzo added a goal, and Pascal Dupuis had an empty-netter and two assists.

In other NHL action:

— Washington spotted Montreal an early goal and then scored three straight times in its 3-2 win over the Canadiens. Alex Ovechkin (oh-VECH’-kin) scored his 26th goal for the Southeast Division-leading Caps, who’ve won five straight.

— Columbus blanked San Jose 4-0. Sergei Bobrovsky picked up his fourth career shutout — all in his last 15 games.

— Michael Grabner scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and Evgeni Nabokov (nah-BAH’-kahv) made 26 saves as the New York Islanders took another step toward the playoffs with a 4-1 win over Philadelphia.

— Marian Hossa’s unassisted goal late in the second period lifted the NHL-leading Chicago Blackhawks to their fifth win in six games, 1-0 over the Minnesota Wild.

— Brian Elliott made 15 saves and Alex Steen scored to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 1-0 victory over Nashville.

— Tampa Bay nipped Ottawa 3-2. Steven Stamkos got the game-winner with 5:04 left, his 26th of the season.

— Aaron Gagnon scored his first NHL goal to help the Winnipeg Jets earn a 4-1 win over Buffalo.

— Dallas routed the L.A. Kings 5-1. Ray Whitney and Vernon Fiddler both scored twice during the Stars’ four-goal third period.
