239 years ago, in the midst of war with the world's reigning super power, Great Britain, our 13th Continental Congress issued a Declaration Of Independence. The bold idea that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that chief among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The 13 colonies were no longer part of the British Empire, but instead, were independent sovereign states that together, formed The United States Of America. What started as a radical and daring idea grew to become the greatest nation in the world. A light to other countries so bright that millions risked all the had to come here to enjoy our hard won freedom.

Like our country, the symbol of our freedom, the flag, has been through a lot. It still stands, but it needs care and tending. We are currently threatened from without and within. I believe we need to stand together against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. Evil would love to see us fall.

On this 4th of July, stay vigilant. If you see something, say something.

Personally, I will add a prayer of thanks for the sacrifices of so many and that divine grace will get us through current and new challenges, to be one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.
