Mishawaka Amphitheatre Celebrates 100th Anniversary

100 years ago, Fort Collins music store owner Walter Thompson decided to homestead a patch of ground on the Cache la Poudre River about 15 miles west of Fort Collins, CO. He put in an orchard, a general store, some rental cabins along with a a dance pavilion and called it Mishawaka. That was in 1916. Here in 2016, they figure its time to celebrate the anniversary, with live music and more.

The last concert I saw at Mishawaka Amphitheatre was two years ago with Dr. John, a seasoned and talented pro in a great setting nestled in the canyon 13 miles from Fort Collins. I was in The Right Place at the right time. The sun was shining, the drinks were flowing and the Cache la Poudre River was the perfect backdrop for a great show.

Just a few yards behind the stage is the island, where some of the more adventurous can camp it they like. I wouldn’t count on too much sleep, but you will have your chance to try in March, when they will host a sleepover party.

The concert lineup will be announced soon, and we will keep you posted. It is an excellent place to see a concert and have dinner. The homestead application fee was $18, 100 years ago. So now the restaurant is offering up an $18 dinner special with a steak, appetizer and frosty cold beer, starting in February and running throughout the season.
