New Mexico Downs Wyoming Cowboys

In the game of basketball, much like the game of life, one move at a key moment can have an adverse effect on the out come of a lot of stuff. The University of Wyoming Cowboy Basketball team (15-5, 2-5) had a chance Wednesday to up set the #25 New Mexico Lobos (18-3) and make a statement both to the fans in Laramie and all over the State of Wyoming. But with 7 seconds left in the contest and down only 2 points a victory was not to be. With a bounce here and a missed shot there, just like in the game of life,  one small miss left the Pokes with their third straight conference loss 63-59. And it wasn’t for a lack of effort.

The Cowboys battled until the final second expired on the clock Wednesday night and unlike their contest with Air Force the Pokes shots from beyond the arc were falling with a total of 12 three’s finding the net in the first half.

But it seemed it was not to be. The Cowboys starting 3 guard rotation dropped 10 of 15 from the land of three and in the end that was not enough. It was not to be. And again not for a lack of effort. The Cowboys pounded the boards, and exerted their defensive pressure to the point of smothering New Mexico’s leading scorer and stifling their big man Alex Kirk.

And just like the game of life…things can slip from bad to worse when one least expects it. Wyoming must now go on the road….(tough place to play in the Mountain West Conference), and renew the time worn tradition of the Boarder War…..and appear in a sold out Moby Arena against the Colorado State University Rams (17-4, 4-2). Yes…much like life…the Mountain West Conference can test a teams confidence. Saturday’s game can be heard on our sister station  AM 1030 KTWO, at 5pm.
