On their third day of operation, My wife and I stopped by the new Accomplice Beer Company to see what they were bringing to The Cheyenne Depot Plaza. An offshoot of The Chop House, this replacement of the old Cheyenne Brewing Company and Shadows before that, would occupy prime space in the heart of Cheyenne.

If you like beer and mainly beer, this place is for you. With many specialty craft brews to sample from, you’ll no doubt find something to your liking. The digital taps are serve yourself style that allow you to tap as much as you like at anywhere from 30 – 50 cents an ounce. Sample small to test, fill ‘er up when you find one you like.

If you’re hungry, you have a minimal menu of some very tasty wings and ribs to choose from. And to soothe your guilty conscience, a kale salad is also available. You can add seared tuna if you like and get some kettle chips and Texas toast too.

The service was still in the “shakedown cruise” mode, being just their third day of operation,  but the staff was fine. The ribs & wings are finger food, but we had to ask for some hardware for the salad. No big deal. The servers were nice when they came around, but since it’s a mostly serve yourself operation, you don’t need them much. Besides, you order your food as soon as you walk in the door and set up a tab with a cashier to receive a card that operates the digital taps. We both would have preferred to have a moment to decide what to eat while sipping some suds, but that is not how The Accomplice Beer Company is set up.

They do let you sample their sauces and they were tasty in deed, and some, were bringing the heat. Once in the main seating area, we sampled and chose our beers while the card racked up the meager charges for checkout later.

The beers are the focus of ABC and the food, though minimal in choice was very good. The wings were perfectly crispy and not over or under done. The ribs I got were made with a hard to find mustard based Carolina BBQ sauce and they too were perfectly done with a crisp outside and moist inside. The Chips were a bit overdone and the kale salad was good and overall, everything was fine.

I wasn’t thrilled about having to make two trips to the front door register, one to give them my credit card first thing, and then another trip to settle up at the end, but no huge deal. I would prefer to deal more with a knowledgeable and friendly staff at our table like most restaurants do, but again, no big deal. It just doesn’t seem as friendly and warm as we would prefer.

An awkward moment occurred at the end of our stay. Since it was self serve for the beer, order your food from cashier at the front counter and then see the wait staff only when they drop off your food and then clear your table, it left me feeling slightly bewildered when it came time to tip. Who am I tipping and how much. I usually start at 20%, but this was largely self serve…. Hmmm.

But overall, if you like lots of choice in quality craft beers and really good wings and ribs, you’ll like Accomplice Beer Company 115 West 15th Street | Cheyenne, Wyoming - 307-632-2337    .

Welcome to town ABC!
