Mountain West Championship Marks Wyoming’s First December Home Game Since 1902
This weekend, War Memorial Stadium in Laramie will host its first conference championship since opening in 1950.
It will also be the first time the Pokes have played for a conference title since losing the inaugural WAC Championship game to BYU in 1996.
A win this weekend would give the Pokes their first ever Mountain West Conference championship and their first conference title since finishing in a three-way tie for the WAC title in 1993.
Amazingly, Saturday also marks the first time the Wyoming Cowboys have hosted a home football game in the month of December since 1902.
A lot has changed in 114 years.
The date was Saturday, December 13, 1902. The University of Wyoming, under head coach William McMurray, defeated Cheyenne High School 18-0 to finish the season with a record of 1-0.
