Lynyrd Skynyrd Forced to Reroute Cruise Due to Hurricane Sandy

Lynyrd Skynyrd has rerouted their fan cruise due to Hurricane Sandy. The Simple Man cruise set sail on Saturday (Oct. 27) from a port in Miami, Fla. and will now head to Cozumel and not Key West and Great Stirrup Cay. The tweaking may not have avoided the storm’s turbulence however.

Yesterday (Oct. 28) was a planned day at sea, with shows taking place on deck. The Outlaws are one of the performers, and a note at the band’s Facebook page left reason for concern. “The Band got the Simple Man Cruise off to a great start last night with a blistering 60-minute set on the main deck in gale force winds. This ship rocks!!!!”

“We have certainly learned one thing over the past six years with this family. It’s always about the Journey,” the post at Skynyrd’s Facebook page reads.

It won’t be all about Journey in New York City this week. The band announced on their Facebook page that the Oct. 30 show at the Barclays Center in New York City was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy. Pat Benatar and Neil Geraldo were also on that bill, and tickets will be refunded.

Oct. 30 update: Another band planning to hit the high seas this week, Kiss, has announced that they are working with Norwegian Cruise Line to delay tomorrow’s departure of the Kiss Kruise II by a few hours. This is being done to allow cruise passengers more time to arrive in Miami, as many flights across the country were cancelled due to the storm. They are also working on plans to allow people to board at a different port on Friday.
