Levon Helm’s Family Asking For Prayers

Levon Helm singer/drummer founder of  The Band "is in the final stages of his battle with cancer," according to a message Helm's wife, Sandy, and daughter Amy posted on his website.Fans are asked to "send prayers and love to Levon as makes this part of his journey.

"Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration... he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance!  He did it every time he took the stage."

Levon was treated for throat cancer in the 1990's, he recovered and continued to record Grammy winning solo albums, including 2007's Dirt Farmer and Electric Dirt released in 2009.

Levon's voice is heard on some of The Band's most popular songs such as "The Weight," "Up on Cripple Creek," and The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down."

Robbie Robertson, founding guitarist/ songwriter for The Band, posted a statement about his band-mate and friend on Facebook!

Enjoy a truly unique individual with many God Given talents that Levon used to their fullest!
