King Crimson Vet Peter Sinfield Suffers Heart Attack

Songwriter and recording artist Peter Sinfield, whose early career included a stint with King Crimson, is in recovery after suffering what is being described as a “non-fatal” heart attack.

The news comes courtesy of Sinfield’s Facebook page, whose admin announced on Oct. 17 that the crew at his website, Song Soup on Sea, is “patiently awaiting the return of Peter … following a non-fatal heart-attack from which he is recovering well in the local hospital. Any well wishes will be passed on and he looks forward to returning home shortly.” The post didn’t go into details, but it did mention that they’d been waiting for him to come home for two weeks.

Sinfield’s name should be well known to British rock fans and liner notes enthusiasts — not just because of his time with Crimson, which produced co-writes on classic cuts such as ’21st Century Schizoid Man,’ ‘The Court of the Crimson King’ and ‘In the Wake of Poseidon,’ but because of his prolific output in subsequent years, which has seen him writing for and with a diverse array of artists that includes Celine Dion, Procol Harum‘s Gary Brooker, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

This isn’t Sinfield’s first spell of heart trouble; in 2005, he endured a quadruple bypass operation, and in recent years, he’s focused on writing poetry, including a number of haiku. There have been periodic attempts to follow up his sole solo LP, 1973′s ‘Still,’ but those recordings remain unreleased.
