A team of fraternity men cycling across the country to help people with disabilities made a stop in Cheyenne on Saturday, June 27.

The group of 20 Pi Kappa Phi brothers from across the nation are participating in The Ability Experience's Journey of Hope, a 4,200-mile cycling trek from Seattle to Washington D.C.

"Our goal is to raise money and awareness for people with disabilities, mental and physical," said Chris Heggenberger, a student at Boise State.  "So we're kind of riding our bikes for people who can't."

"Usually whenever you're around someone with disabilities they light up your world, they make you smile," said Kevin Baldwin, a student at Virginia Tech.  "I mean they're always happy and it's just nice to give back to them as well."

Every cyclist commits to raising a minimum of $5,500 on behalf of people with disabilities in hopes to enhance their quality of life.

"Our goal is $600,000," said Heggenberger.  "We've raised a little over $560,000 and we're sill fundraising as we go."

The team, which cycles and average of 75 miles a day, expects to ride into our nation's capital on August 8.

"It's extremely tough, but it's rewarding," said Baldwin.  "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity."
