The show is still six months away, but the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards broadcast has already found its emcee: late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel.

The longtime host of ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ can now add his name to a long roster of late night personalities to helm the Emmys, including 2010 host Jimmy Fallon. So what did Kimmel have to say about landing the gig?

“I hope to be able to do for the Emmys this year what Eddie Murphy did for the Oscars,” he deadpanned, referencing the dust-up over Murphy’s very public withdrawal as the host of the Academy Awards mere weeks before the ceremony aired.

Aside from his own namesake show and his live post-Oscars broadcasts, Kimmel has plenty of hosting experience — he’s previously hosted the American Music Awards and the ESPY Awards, and next month, he’s slated to host the White House Correspondents’ dinner.

The Emmy Awards ceremony will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sept. 23.
