What was once science fiction is now a reality. The Star Trek communicator is nothing compared to the new smart phones. The next frontier in technology is artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. It could be a game changer for nearly every industry.

There are young scientists working on AI right here in Wyoming. I don’t think they are setting up Skynet from the Terminator movies, but they are embracing the advancement in the technology. This video is about Jeff Clune. It is from a series called "What is Wyoming's Greatest Resource?" Spoiler, it is the people in Wyoming.

Jeff is an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Wyoming. In the fall of 2016, he will be teaching two classes artificial intelligence and evolutionary robotics. It sounds like science fiction, but it could be the future of Wyoming and the world.

Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking told The Guardian that AI could be the most important event in human history for better or worse. I can't help but think of the discovery of the atom leading to the nuclear bomb. That it can be a source of energy or a device of mass destruction.

As Jeff Clune said in the video, he believes that it will drastically change every business sector. Right now billions of dollars are being invested in AI and robotics. This trend will only continue in the future. The good new is Wyoming has people working on it. People like Jeff Clune.
