Metal respects no boundaries, least of all national borders -- and when you rock as hard as Iron Maiden, you don't need amps or electricity to get your message across. For delightfully Nordic proof, here's a Finnish bluegrass band covering Maiden's 'The Trooper.'

The band in question, Steve'n'Seagulls, clearly has a sharp sense of humor about this stuff -- their website includes covers of Mott the Hoople's 'All the Young Dudes' and Michael Jackson's 'Thriller,' among others -- but they've got an equally sharp set of musical chops to back it up, and their version of Maiden's 1983 classic manages to pay tribute to the original while giving it a thoroughly unique spin.

Hardcore Maiden fans will no doubt miss all of the heavily amplified attitude that makes the 'Trooper' they already know and love so powerful, but once you get over the shock of hearing the song in a new light, you may not be able to help coming away with a newfound respect -- not only for the Finnish music scene, but for Maiden's Steve Harris, who wrote the original and could never have suspected how far it'd end up traveling all these decades later.
