Iggy and the Stooges Announce ‘Ready to Die’ Release Details
The Iggy and the Stooges album 'Raw Power' turns 40 this month, and the group is also planning a new release. Iggy Pop, James Williamson and Scott Asheton have united to record 'Ready to Die,' their second album featuring the surviving members of that lineup. (2007's 'The Weirdness' featured the surviving members of the Ron Asheton-fronted Stooges lineup.)
Songs called 'Burn' and 'Sex & Money' will lead off the group's fifth studio album -- available April 30 -- and from the tone of the frontman's comments about the music and this time in their life, it won't lack a bit of the power and bite of earlier albums.
"My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal," Iggy Pop says in a video statement. "It's just a pig-headed f---ing thing I have that a real f---ing group when they're an older group they also make f---ing records."
"They don't just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of f---ing money and then go (in a fake whiney voice) 'Oh, it wouldn't be as good!' This is not the f---ing Smashing Pumpkins you know, we've got the bald guy and whoever. No. This is the key. It's the only thing I really have left to say. The Stooges are a real group."
Today's (Feb. 25) announcement also included hints that Iggy and the Stooges will take to the road this spring or summer, but no dates were revealed. A video trailer of the album can be found below.
