UPDATE:

Three people are dead following an accident on Interstate 80 east of Cheyenne Wednesday evening.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says 45-year-old David Knotts of Jenison, Michigan and two children, ages nine and six, were killed when the vehicle they were traveling in crashed into the back of an over-sized semi.

Sergeant David Wagener says Knotts was traveling at highway speeds when he struck the semi which was slowed in traffic approximately three miles east of the Hillsdale exit.

The driver of the semi was uninjured in the crash.

A nine mile portion of eastbound Interstate 80 was closed for five hours, while traffic was routed around the crash scene.

UPDATE:
Interstate 80 has re-opened to normal travel, according to the WYDOT Wyoming Road and Travel website.

A fatal accident 16 miles east of Cheyenne has a portion of Interstate 80 closed.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two vehicle crash that occurred in the eastbound lane at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Sergeant David Wagener says eastbound traffic is currently being detoured around the crash scene.  Motorists can take exit 377 to the service road north of I-80 and proceed east to the on-ramp at mile post 386.
I-80 eastbound is expected to be closed for an extended amount of time. Motorists are encouraged to check wyoroad.info or call 1-888-WYO-ROAD for updates.
