High winds were likely the cause of a large wildland fire west of Casper Saturday night. According to Fire Marshall Brian Oliver, Natrona County Fire District was called out about 10:30 p.m. to the area of Bessemer Bend Road.

The wind was recorded on scene at 48 MPH sustained with higher gusts and officials believe that wind caused broken tree branches to bring down power lines. NCFD, along with Casper Fire-EMS, Mills Fire Department, Natrona County Sheriff’s Office and Wyoming Highway Patrol held the wind driven fire to 10.5 acres, and no structures were damaged or lost.

The fire was contained around 2:00 a.m. Sunday, and crews remained on scene to monitor blowing ash and embers. Officials say power has been restored to the area.
