UNDATED (AP) — LeBron James had 40 points and a career-high 16 assists Tuesday night, making him the first NBA player to register that many points and assists in the same game since Kevin Johnson in April 1994. The Miami Heat needed almost all of that production to pull out their 12th straight win.

The Heat outscored Sacramento 17-5 in the second overtime to beat the Kings 141-129. James scored the first five points of the second OT to put Miami ahead to stay.

Dwyane (dwayn) Wade had 39 points and Ray Allen chipped in 21 as the Heat improved their record to an Eastern Conference-leading 41-14.

Elsewhere in the NBA, Blake Griffin scored five of his 24 points during a 21-6 burst in the second half of the Los Angeles Clippers’ 106-84 win over Charlotte. Matt Barnes added 17 points off the bench, Caron Butler had 16 points and Chris Paul had 13 of the Clippers’ season-high 34 assists in their sixth win in seven games.

David West had 28 points, George Hill finished with 23 and Paul George added 21 as Indiana won its fifth in a row, 108-97 over Golden State. Pacers center Roy Hibbert was ejected and four other players received technical fouls after a skirmish midway through the fourth quarter.

Deron Williams scored 33 points and Brook Lopez added 20 as Brooklyn beat New Orleans 101-97 to end a two-game skid. The Nets blew most of a 22-point lead before Williams drained a three-pointer with 1:24 remaining and six free throws in the final 18.7 seconds.

Cleveland beat Chicago for the first time in a dozen tries as Dion Waiters scored 25 points in the Cavaliers’ 101-98 win over the Bulls. Shaun Livingston, finished with 15 points as improving Cavs held on for their third win in four games.

Monta (MAHN’-tay) Ellis scored 22 points and hit a pair of go-ahead buckets in the last two minutes of Milwaukee’s 95-90 win at Dallas. Dirk Nowitzki had 21 points and 20 rebounds for the Mavericks, the first game in nearly 10 years he’s had at least 20 points and 20 boards.

Orlando ended a 10-game road losing streak by beating Philadelphia 98-84. Arron Afflalo and Tobias Harris scored 16 points apiece as the Magic dealt the 76ers their season-worst sixth-straight loss.

Marcin Gortat, Wesley Johnson and Markieff Morris had 14 points apiece as Phoenix took down Minnesota 84-83 to end a three-game slide. Gortat hit a runner with 13 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime and scored on a hard drive with 45 seconds left in the extra period.

CHICAGO (AP) — Cavaliers All-Star guard Kyrie (ky-REE’) Irving has a hyperextended right knee and missed Tuesday’s game against the Bulls. He initially injured the knee in practice last week and was slowed by the injury during recent games at Orlando and Miami.

The NBA’s rookie of the year, Irving is averaging 23.3 points, 5.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds.

The Bulls were also short-handed. Taj Gibson is expected to miss at least two weeks with a sprained left knee. Gibson says his leg buckled when he stepped on the foot of Oklahoma City guard Reggie Jackson in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 102-72 loss to the Thunder.
