Last year’s complex rollout of labeling, packaging and putting stamps on marijuana edibles proved exhausting and is being replaced with a ban on products that could be appealing to kids.

The new law, House Bill 1436, is designed to protect children and uninformed or stupid adults from getting sick off of what looks like candy. An analogy for adults could compare thinking you are drinking a beer, but are getting the effect of vodka. The ban does not include common cooking and baking items.

This ongoing effort of packaging and labeling is part of an effort for Colorado to avoid a federal crackdown on their marijuana industry.

In 2014, The Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center received 45 calls about children eight and under suffering from the effects of getting into their parent’s stash of edibles.
