The sudden death of Eagles founder Glenn Frey has sent a rock world already reeling from the recent losses of David Bowie and Lemmy Kilmister into another round of tributes and sad farewells on social media.

Frey passed away following a health battle that forced the Eagles to pull out of the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony last November. His condition reportedly worsened in recent days, until he succumbed earlier today (Jan. 18) to "complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia."

The Eagles broke the news to their fans via the following post on their official Facebook page:

Frey's longtime Eagles bandmate Don Henley quickly followed up with a more personal statement, crediting Frey as the group's "spark plug, the man with  the plan" and expressing his gratitude for their time together:

Tributes have also been flowing in from members of Motley Crue, Kiss, the Roots and many more famous acts, revealing just how large an influence Frey and his music continues to have on a surprisingly diverse group of artists. As you can see, many of the tweets also comment on the extraordinary rash of classic rock-related deaths that has taken place in recent weeks, a trend we most certainly hope discontinues immediately.
