Gillette Native Josh Dorr will soon bring his Nashville music back home to Wyoming.

Josh Dorr will open the Cowboy Kickoff in Laramie Sept. 2, 2016 for Kip Moore. Dorr has been writing music in Nashville since 2010 after he made his way out east via an internship.

It wasn't all easy for major label artist Dorr. He told Taste of Country Music he spent many hours doing menial task work just trying to get his foot in the door. He worked for how Dog-Universal Records, the same musical home as Toby Keith. But after networking and playing open mics, he found his niche. His hard work and collaborations got him signed to RCA.

Nowadays Dorr not only writes songs to perform on stage, but he also writes songs for the television such as for Necessary Roughness, on the USA Network, and Open Season on the Pursuit Channel.

Dorr picked up the guitar to keep busy after a few injuries while playing sports. He was a hard-working football player during his high school years in Gillete.

The Cowboy Kickoff will be Sept. 2, 2016 in Laramie at War Memorial Stadium. This is the third year of the event. If past events are any indication of this year's success, it will be a crowded event.

Tickets are available at a reduced cost until Aug. 9.
