Before all the parties, and before the ball dropped, we published a poll asking about your new year’s resolutions. The top thing people in Wyoming wanted to improve about themselves in 2016 was eating better and losing weight. I don’t know about you, but I am not good at counting calories or calculating points on a diet. The biggest pit falls of resolutions are they are too complicated and unrealistic. So I offer 5 easy concepts that will help in losing weight and being healthier in 2016.

The biggest thing on creating a new healthy habit is it has to be enjoyable. If you like what you are doing, you are more likely to continue to do it. Next reward your achievements and don’t punish yourself for failing. Just keep trying.

    Exercise More Often.

    Work it. Work it. Sweat. Rinse. Repeat.

    There is not a better way to lose weight and better your health that exercise. If they tell you otherwise, they are selling you something. I think the important thing if you want create a healthy routine is to make it fun. A work out should not be something you loath. It should be something you crave to do. Do you like to play baseball? Join a team. You like to ride a bike? Hit the trails. Like to run? Grab your radio and run Forest, run.

    Stretch Regularly.

    Can’t. Touch. Toes… Whew!

    You don’t need to do yoga, to be flexible. A few simple stretches you’ve learned in high school added to your morning routine, can make your body happy. Take a lesson from a cat. Once a cat wakes up from a nap, it stretches and yawns. Naps are healthy too by the way… as long as you’re not driving.

    Drink More Water.

    Glug, glug, glug… Ahhaa. Yummy.

    Water is the fluid of life. It is the only no calories, no fat, no sugar, no chemical beverage on the planet. Drink a large glass of water before that cup of coffee in the morning. Does your work have a water cooler? Bring a water bottle and use it at work. Make it part of your routine and you will feel the difference.

    Avoid Fried and Processed Foods.

    Take a Hike McFried with Fried-Fried.

    Now I’m not saying don’t eat bacon. I could never do that, but let’s face it the biggest excess in calories, sugar, cholesterol come from fried and processed food. Your oven is your friend. A simple way to cut out calories would be to limit the times you eat out. I know for myself it is too easy to slip out of work and get some fast food. It is all so too easy to gain weight. Pack a lunch with health foods will save you money and unneeded calories.

    Eat More Vegetables.

    Greens are Good.

    There is a reason why your grandma made you eat your vegetables before you had desert. Those greens are full in good vitamins and minerals that help your body. As I’ve grown up, I’ve realized my issue with veggies was not the vegetables, but the way they were cooked. I’d suggest trying new things. It doesn’t have to be a salad or frozen vegetables. For example steamed broccoli I don’t like at all, but oven roasted broccoli with onions and garlic are awesome. If you don’t enjoy eating it, find something that you do like otherwise it won’t last.
