Musician Fiona Apple already has a bit of a reputation for being melodramatic, and her recent move to cancel her South American tour because her dog is dying probably won't do much to dispel that. Still, Apple wrote a touching four-page letter explaining her decision that's guaranteed to make you shed a tear.

According to the lengthy note, Apple's 13-year-old Pitbull mix named Janet is dying from a tumor in her chest. Apple says she's had the rescue dog since it was four-months-old and the animal marks "the most consistent relationship" of her adult life. "She was my child," Apple writes.

The dog apparently took a turn for the worse when Apple got back from the last leg of her US tour. "I know that she is coming close to [the] point where she will stop being a dog, and instead, be part of everything. She’ll be in the wind, and in the soil, and the snow, and in me, wherever I go," Apple said.

So, Apple decided to cancel her South American tour and stay home with the ailing pooch. This way, she could sing the dog to sleep and "escort her out."

Can you relate to Apple's decision to put work on hold and nurse her dying dog? Or is she just being a tad overemotional?
