Federal prosecutors have taken over part of the case of a man arrested earlier this month for growing marijuana at his residence near Evansville, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

The Wyoming U.S. Attorney's office has charged Jefferey Hallock with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

If convicted, Hallock faces up to 10 years of imprisonment.

The federal criminal complaint filed Tuesday recounts much of what the Natrona County Sheriff's Office had reported, including that Hallock was convicted of felony possession of marijuana in federal court in Casper in 2005.

Sheriff's records added Hallock was convicted of second-degree murder in 1984.

Hallock was arrested Nov. 3 after deputies executed a search warrant at a residence in the area of Quartz Circle off North Cole Creek Road near Evansville.

Deputies recovered 11.18 pounds of marijuana, grow lights, chemicals and a firearm.

The federal criminal complaint said the firearm was a 12-gauge shotgun with five rounds loaded, and Hallock had 40 additional rounds and an additional barrel.

Hallock admitted the shotgun belonged to hm, he had a person buy it for him for $250, and he  owned it for personal protection because someone had shot at his home and truck in 2015.

The Sheriff's Office had been investigating Hallock's residence since late July, and sources reported Hallock grew marijuana, processed it in the rear of his residence, and recently installed vents to remove the odor from building. Hallock also installed air fresheners in the electric outlets.

A confidential source told a sheriff's deputy that Hallock would deliver the marijuana to his customers on Friday mornings after 7 a.m. "because Hallock wanted to get his customers on pay day."

He was bound over for trial in state district court on Nov. 16.
